I was born in a midsize town in
India in a middle class family. I had a great passion
for art from early child hood. I started taking art
lessons when I was 8 years old. People called me a
child prodigy. When I was young I used to sit on the
canvas and paint because the canvas was bigger than
me. From childhood I participated in many art competition
I usually won 1st prize. When I was only in 8th grade
I started teaching painting at local Art school in
my home town and continued teaching untill my 12th
grade.
Due to my love for the arts and painting I decided
to take art as a profession and joined one of the
finest art Institutue in India, the JJ School of Arts.
I was even awarded scholarship for all five years
of my BFA. In my BFA I came either 1st or 2nd in my
class and I was the validictorian of my graduating
class. I was awarded Best Illustrator of the
year (Waghulkar prize) for my final year project.
After graduating in 1988 I continued at JJ for my
Masters. I moved to USA in 1990 and started my carrier
as a Creative Designer. I worked for various advertizing
agencies in Austin in the Art department. I worked
several years as a Creative Director designing various
print material, multimedia, websites, and eventually
into Software User Interface designs. The pieces I
worked on won several national awards on design.
Art is my true passion and it comes from my heart.
It tells a story and teaches me how to be aware of
silent space. It is from this quiet space that paintings
emerge. From last couple of years I have focused more
on self-expression. My paintings are really about
my exploration of life with color, contour and design.
